Technical Notes:
Carbon Fiber represents an exciting new direction for PRL Motorsports. While we have carefully evaluated this material option for some time, we maintained a deliberate approach to its implementation. This new Matte Carbon Fiber version for the HVI shares many of the same overall design characteristics as our roto-molded FL5 air box, with slight modifications to the mounting system and factory seal attachment points.

Testing Data:
This new Matte Carbon Fiber version shares many of the same overall design characteristics as our roto-molded FL5 air box, with slight modifications to the mounting system and factory seal attachment points. Much like to roto-molded version, our testing concluded that the factory rubber inlet restricts airflow into the air box, creating a potential loss of 10–20 horsepower with the hood closed. To address this, we have incorporated the secondary air duct from the roto-molded version to eliminate airflow restrictions. By maximizing the opening size and optimizing airflow into the air box, this design delivers an increase in airflow compared to the OEM unit, maximizing performance.

PRL has always maintained a commitment to creating products that seamlessly integrate performance excellence with striking visual appeal. The Matte Carbon High Volume Intake does just that. So whether you are looking for that next big performance upgrade, or to adda touch of race car to your build, we are confident that our Matte carbon High Volume Intake System for the FL5 and DE5 platform will exceed your expectations, delivering the performance and quality that has become synonymous with the name PRL.

These air intake systems use a patented dual chamber design that maximizes horsepower and torque - typically producing even more power than our own cold air systems.

On a dyno graph, the area under the power band (or power curve) represents the amount of effort that an engine is producing. The larger the overall area under the curve, the more power your engine is making. The system utilizes a dual chamber (using two different diameters and lengths of piping) that creates multiple frequency sound waves to produce a large area under the curve. These sound waves help charge the cylinders with more air and are what enables them to outperform our cold air systems.

We have found that inlet length plays a vital role in the power production of Dual Chamber systems and not all Dual Chamber induction systems relocate the filter outside of the engine compartment. In these cases, we performed extensive temperature testing to locate the filter in the coolest area of the engine compartment to achieve the lowest inlet temperatures possible. Please refer to our temperature testing procedures for more information.
