Stage 1 Tuner Cams:
Skunk2 Tuner Series camshafts retain factory idle quality and low speed emissions and also significantly increase HP and TQ. When applicable, the VTEC crossover from primary to secondary is more dramatic for that classic VTEC surge. Many of the Skunk2 Tuner Series camshafts also feature Fast Ramp and Amax Technology which allow the engine to build more torque at lower rpms. Tuner Series camshaft profiles are less aggressive than our Pro-Series Camshafts and are designed to place more emphasis on idle quality and emissions. Tuner Series cams use the same high quality cores as our Pro-Series camshafts and are ground on the same CNC cam grinding machines equipped with CBN grinding wheels. Tuner Series camshafts are ideal for both daily street driven and racing engines
Stage 1: Street/Race cam designed for stock engines with bolt-on modifications. Also good for supercharged applications and aggressive turbo applications. Upgraded valvetrain recommended, but not required. *CARB Approved.
Alpha Valve Spring and Titanium Retainer Kit:
Skunk2 is proud to introduce its Alpha Valve Spring and Titanium Retainer Kit for Honda’s B-series VTEC engines. Each kit includes Skunk2’s high-quality dual valve springs and race-proven titanium retainers that are the result of nearly two decades of racing and engine building experience.
Each Alpha Valve Spring is manufactured exclusively from super-clean, chrome-silicone wire milled in Japan. By using inner and outer springs mated together through a slight interference fit and with differing frequencies, Alpha Valve Springs are able to prevent valve float and maintain valvetrain stability at engine speeds in excess of 10,000 rpm.
Skunk2’s industry-leading Alpha Titanium Retainers are designed to significantly reduce valvetrain mass, resulting in more horsepower and improved valvetrain stability. Similar to Skunk2’s already popular Pro Series Titanium Retainers, Alpha Titanium Retainers feature radius-cut edges for additional rocker arm clearance and reduced weight, strategically positioned lightening grooves, and reduced overall heights for better valve seal clearance and even further weight reduction.
Alpha Titanium Retainers are manufactured using the latest 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to ensure that each is optimized for strength as well as for reduced weight. Skunk2 engineers then test and prove their designs on the engine dyno as well as the race track. Once approved for manufacturing, only medical-grade titanium that’s been ultrasonically inspected and certified is used. Following CNC machining, each retainer is then individually inspected to ensure proper hole diameter, taper, and that each are free from machining defects to ensure proper installed valve spring heights and pressures. Finally, each retainer is serialized for your protection, including valuable information, like material batch specifics as well as production and inspection dates.
Skunk2 designs, develops, and tests its entire valvetrain lineup in-house to ensure superior quality and maximum performance gains. Pro-Series Cam Gears:
An engine’s camshafts must be set at their proper positions relative to the crankshaft in order to maximize horsepower. Pro Series Cam Gears for Honda's B-series and H23A1 engines enable serious tuners to optimize horsepower and torque by being able to adjust camshaft timing +/- 10 degrees, in one-degree increments, allowing them to tailor the power curve appropriately. Thanks to laser-etched timing and directional marks, precise camshaft adjustments can be made quickly and easily. Pro Series Cam Gears feature precision-machined, hard-anodized teeth to reduce premature wear with a signature, six-bolt design that eliminates gear slipping. Skunk2’s lightweight design (35 percent lighter than OEM) and CNC-machined, 7075-T6 billet aluminum construction reduces rotational inertia, resulting in increased engine response and acceleration. Skunk2’s adjustable cam gears have also been proven on race cars in the most extreme conditions for more than a decade.
B-Series VTEC Lost Motion Assembly:
Skunk2 is proud to introduce its Lost Motion Assembly Kits for Honda’s B-series VTEC engines. Skunk2 Lost Motion Assemblies will fit any B-Series DOHC VTEC engine (Type-R/GSR B16A, B17A, B18C).
The Skunk2 Lost Motion Assembly is an advance spring device that is designed to put pre-load on the center portion of the VTEC rocker when it is in the unlocked position (when VTEC mode is disabled). During extended operating conditions, the contaminants in the oil will more than likely cause the piston to seize resulting in the VTEC rocker rattling when VTEC is not engaging or when the vehicle is in idle.
Each Skunk2 Lost Motion Assembly is manufactured exclusively from chrome silicone steel using the latest 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) modeling and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to ensure maximum optimization. Each chrome silicone steel spring features a hardened tip for added durability. Skunk2 engineers then tested and proved their design on the engine dyno as well as the race track.
The Skunk2 Lost Motion Assembly Kit replaces the factory piston-style LMA design with an improved design commonly found in newer generation Honda engines. Replacing LMA's are recommended when installing aftermarket camshafts and required when installing Skunk2 Pro Series and other high-lift camshafts.
Each Lost Motion Assembly Kit includes a set of 8 assemblies for an entire Honda DOHC VTEC B-Series 4-cylinder engine (Type-R/GSR, B16A, B17A, B18C) and are compatible with all camshafts. When using camshafts with +12.5mm lift, LMA's are an absolute must, and Skunk2 Lost Motion Assembly springs are 3 percent stiffer than ITR springs.
Valve Stem Seals:
Viton Valve Stem Seals are designed to provide exceptional lubrication while keeping oil out of the combustion chamber. Only Viton is able to provide precise oil control and maximum durability throughout the entire rpm range.
Alpha Series Valves (Optional):
Manufactured from HNV3 martensitic steel (IN) and EV8 austenitic steel (EX) one-piece forgings, each valve is heat-treated using a proprietary process for extraordinary strength and durability. Alpha Series Valves feature hard chrome plating and fully machined valve heads. Other valves may appear similar, but only Alpha Series Valves feature specially designed valve head profiles to optimize airflow. Skunk2 designs, develops, and tests its entire valvetrain lineup in-house to ensure superior quality and maximum performance gains.
